My wife discovers my blog

Everything is temporary. Especially secrets.

After 3 years, 4 months, 383 posts, 2,733 comments, and rarely publicizing my blog, my wife discovered it. The gig is up, done, over. Goodbye to my secret. It’s kaput. ARGGGHHHH!

So, how did this happen and who is to blame?

Google. Yes, Google.

Bang. Done. Over with.

But did the little detective tell me right away when she found it? No. She read a bunch of the posts first.

However, unlike me, she’s the worst when it comes to keeping secrets and couldn’t help but confess, though I give her style points for her method of choice: she wrote a comment for a post, used her silly Disney alias, Dakota, and sent it with an email address I’d recognize.

I walked the 50 feet to her home office. And that was it. I got the low down on how she found it.

One of my blogging friends emailed me a CF question about marriage and I copied and pasted the text to my wife to get her opinion. She Googled my friend’s name and it came up attached to my blog, which she clicked on. It didn’t take her long to put 7 and 10 together (Denver Broncos, Fox, McGriddles) and realize it was me. (BTW, Josh, she really likes the header you created. Thank you.)

Somehow, my wife finding it feels like an ending.

So, what do I do now? Do I continue to write this blog? Do I quit it and start another, bury it deeper in the internet?

Or, do I hand it over to her and let her write it for a while? (You found it, it’s your responsibility now, Honey.)

I don’t know. We’ll see. To be continued. Or not.

  1. Isn’t there a CA state law prohibiting quitting a well established blog and handing it off to a second party?Yeah, I’m pretty sure there is so you better not do it or else.

  2. I’m with Larry (above) there must be some kind of law.

I understand your disappointment, but seriously, you can’t leave us hanging! At least email us with your new secret blog so we can stalk er…follow and support you there. You’re my favourite UC (shh…don’t tell the others) how would I go on with out the inimitable humor of UC?

PS. I DO think its really lovely for your wife to be able to see this legacy and be able to chat about it with you too, rather than find it someday when you are no longer around.. Just because it wasn’t the plan doesn’t mean it cant be rewarding in a different way!

    • Queen Karyn of Down Under,

I would, of course, email you the secret link. I think I’ll stay here for now. I did ask my wife not to read anymore of it. And we haven’t discussed it since.

Then, I read your comment and had second thoughts. But then those thoughts went away and I’m sticking to the plan. Best not to discuss creative decisions with her. But if I do change my mind, it will be because of you. But I won’t – change my mind, that is. 🙂

  3. I didn’t know she didn’t know! hahahaha Props to her. Just keep writing.

My husband and I don’t keep secret blogs from each other, at least not that I know of! Plus, he’s the one that introduced me to the blog. But back then we called it an online diary and we were the only two of our friends that used it. So everyone read it but no one did it until like 10 years later. I think it was actually his sister that got us started sometime in the late 90’s.

    • Tara, Tara, Tara,

I hate to be the one to tell you, but I’ve been reading your husband’s secret blog for years. It’s quite good and he’s very in love with you. I’m not telling you the web address however. It’s his secret.

  4. If it helps… your blog is WORLD FAMOUS!
Seriously, in holland, basically every single person reads it 😉
    Please keep writing…

    Love,

    • Djun,

I just accidentally deleted the fantastic reply I wrote you. Damn. It was good. Very funny. You’ll have to trust me on that.

Thanks for writing. Happy that you read my blog and you’re from Holland. That’s good enough for me.

      Stay in touch,

  5. I’m glad your wife found the blog! I agree with Admin that’s it is nice for her to know about it now. It doesn’t take away from the thought of leaving a legacy for your daughter.

    • Ah, the Mysterious MAL,

Welcome back. Glad to hear from you. Thanks for the three comments. I’m glad you’re glad my wife found my blog. I’m not. But if you are, then I’m okay with that. 🙂 My daughter will never read them. She will have a life of her own and write her own blog. It would be nice if she took over mine one day. Who knows.
